
Beetroot or Beets are one of the best source of a blood purifier or hemoglobin booster, beetroot juice is one of the best ingredients that can help you boost your immunity. They can be had in many ways such as raw in salads, as a juice, cooked up by boiling, steaming, roasting or grilling. Beetroot can be had in pickled form and can be used as a coloring agent in many recipes. It is one of the most versatile ingredients and tastes wonderful with a earthy note.


Considered as a Keto friendly vegetable, beetroot can be used in many ways with the best being as a salad along with quinoa and any leafy lettuce. Beetroot not only adds a different texture but provides the dish with a visual positivity as well due to its rich red color. Crushed beet or beetroot juice can be added to the vinaigrette of choice to give it a different flavour and color as well. Sesame seeds and feta cheese are a great accompaniment with beets in salads or on its own

Apart from making it into a soup, beets can also be used as a excellent source of providing color to a dish which it is in the curing or the pickling of Pennsylvania Dutch Pickled eggs. Polish Cwikla is a mixture of horseradish and grated beetroot pickled together in brine is served along with cold cuts and sandwiches is also mixed along with mashed potatoes in Poland & Ukraine. In Northern Germany, beetroot is mashed with Labskaus or added as its side order.
Betanins, obtained from the roots, are used industrially as red food colourants, e.g. to intensify the colour of tomato paste, sauces, desserts, jams and jellies, ice cream, sweets, and breakfast cereals. They also help in making the colorfully vibrant dessert possible – The Red Velvet Cake.


Beets are available in Red, Yellow and White. Although the major ones which are consumed are Red, sugar beets are one of the best source of sugar producing beets!
Beet Wine!
While for a great part of the 19th century, beet was used to give a good red color to the red wine it was never considered as a ingredient which can be used in making wine. But with the changes in food culture and the openness to experimentation, beet has now evolved into becoming a ingredient which can be used for making both fermented (alcoholic) or non fermented (non alcoholic) beet wines.
Some say that the beet wine resembles a sweet earthy wine , as for the non alcoholic wines they are a mix of either beet juice with some other fruit juice and/or herbal tea.
